The Castellino Campus for Biomedicine and Biotechnologies (Research Area CNR-NA1) is a cluster of seven research Institutes of the National Research Council (CNR) that is located in the center of Naples (Vomero-Arenella district) in the vicinity of several other major research Institutions.
The Castellino Campus occupies an area of about 12000 m2, with about 21000 m2 of laboratories/facilities (1 main building and four accessories buildings) and 5000 m2 of ground, for a total area of about 26000 m2. The vast expertise of the Research Area is exemplified by the CNR Institutes present: Institute of Genetics and Biophysics “Adriano Buzzati Traverso” (IGB), Institute of Protein Biochemistry (IBP), Institute for Applied Mathematics “Mauro Picone” (IAC), Institute for High Performance Computing and Networking (ICAR), Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems (IMM), Institute of Agro-Environmental and Forest Biology (IBAF), Institute of Bioscience and Bioresources (IBBR).
In addition, the CNR Campus hosts a private Institute, Tigem, and a number of private industrial laboratories. These include Carlo Gavazzi Space and Alenia Areonautica (at the IMM), Alfa Intes, Axxam, Dompé, Epitech Group, New Fa Dem (at the IBP), IRBM, Primm (at the IGB). The arrival of personnel from SMEs and industrial groups has been promoted by National and Regional programs aiming at collaborative studies between industries and academia in the fields of pharmacology, biotechnology, ICT. This approach has been successful in enhancing the technology transfer activities in the area, and consequently applications for spin-offs that are presently starting their activities. read more
